Scrivens Opticians are proud to support Alzheimer’s Society as our official partner charity since 2015.

Dementia is the biggest health and social challenge of our time. There are currently estimated to be 900,000 people in the UK with dementia. Many are undiagnosed and facing the realities of their condition alone. This is a cause that is close to many people’s hearts as research has shown that around 23 million of the UK population have a family member or close friend with dementia.

About Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They provide help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.  Alzheimer’s Society are made up of people with dementia, carers, trusted experts, campaigners, researchers and clinicians. They are the UK’s largest collective force of people with unparalleled knowledge and over 40 years of experience addressing the biggest challenges facing people living with dementia.

In support of World Alzheimer’s Day, we are joining forces with Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and the fight against dementia. To help raise awareness of this link and we would like to let you know that you can get your hearing checked in minutes with our free hearing screening and we will be donating £1 for every hearing screening undertaken during 21st-26th September!

3 Peaks Challenge

Dispensing optician Amy Roe and optometrist Rachel Ogden will test their stamina and fitness in aid of Alzheimer’s Society on Saturday 25 July.

They hope to raise at least £250 each by climbing three mountains, Pen-y-Ghent (694m) Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) covering a distance of around 24 miles during the day.

Amy said: “Alzheimer’s Society is Scrivens’ principal charity this year and we wanted to do something special for it. We’ve never done anything like this before and we know it will be tough but we’re looking forward to it.

Rachel added: “I am a keen runner and Amy has been doing plenty of practising. It is an organised event and we will support and encourage each other to help us complete the challenge within the 12 hours target.”

Both women know that conquering the three peaks in the Yorkshire Dales is no mean feat as the steep climbs and descents will be physically demanding, albeit in stunning scenery.

10K Memory Walk

Marie Sanders is a woman with a focus on walking for hundreds of miles to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The 46-year-old manager of Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in Fakenham simply loves a challenge and this year will take on not one but FOUR 100 kilometre walks for the cause.

She explained: “It all started when I did a 10K Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society in 2013. It took me just over an hour to do and I thought I could do something more challenging. I found out about the 100k ultra challenges and decided to give them a go.

Marie has a personal reason for getting involved in such testing feats of endurance. Her father, who is 78, has dementia and the father of a colleague has Alzheimer’s.
