Let’s hear it for the nation’s favourite voice

National treasure, Sir David Attenborough, has topped a Scrivens poll to find the nation’s favourite voice.
The much-loved 92-year-old broadcaster beat Hollywood great Morgan Freeman to claim the top spot. In third place was actor and author Stephen Fry, followed by Dame Judi Dench and former 007, Sean Connery.

Eyeing up retirement after 35 years at Newquay branch

A popular and well-respected optometrist was given a surprise send-off when he retired from a Newquay opticians after 35 years.

John McLaughlin from Varnals Opticians on East Street, part of Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, was presented with a camera and whisky as colleagues paid tribute to his care and dedication to his patients.

Pets in the frame for Kirsty's calendar win

A charming photograph of a rabbit and a cat’s unlikely friendship taken by a Poole animal lover has been chosen as the cover shot for our national charity calendar.
Kirsty Godsell was overall winner in the photographic competition to find 12 special images for the Memorable Moments calendar in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
