Scrivens ‘Golden’ trio clock up 150 years’ service

Post on 22nd August 2024

Three Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care employees are celebrating ‘Golden’ anniversaries as they each clock up 50 years of loyal service.

Half a century ago, Scrivens was a Midlands focused business with just 40 branches, today the company has grown to 168 stores nationwide offering both high street optical and hearing care.

Professional services director Jeet Saimbi from Solihull joined the family owned business as a pre-reg dispensing optician, before qualifying as a Dispensing and Contact Lens Optician.  Her management career started at Scrivens’ branches in Birmingham suburbs Kingstanding and Ward End, before moving on to head up the Group’s contact lens business. She was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1996.

Luke Warrican, who is quality control supervisor at Scrivens’ lens manufacturer Mersona Ltd in Halesowen, has also reached his golden milestone.  Having started as a 19 year old apprentice fitting lenses to spectacle frames, he has steadily moved up the management ladder and reflects that being made a ‘leading hand’ 30 years ago was his best and proudest career moment.

Rounding up the ‘golden’ trio, management accountant Tad Rogozinski has also ‘counted’ 50 years’ service, using the milestone to retire from the family owned business.

Jeet said: “It has been an honour and pleasure to grow with Scrivens over the decades as the company expanded from its Birmingham roots to become a national retailer.  Much has changed in terms of technology on both the optical and hearing care side of the business, but we have never lost sight of our roots by remaining committed to providing accessible community services, including NHS provision, on high streets up and down the country.”

“I still love working for Scrivens and am continually learning and developing.  Thankfully I have been surrounded by supportive and talented people who have been there for me both professionally and personally and the inevitable highs and lows of life.”

Luke is also grateful to Scrivens for its support to him over the years and cites that as key to his longevity at the company. “I was newly married when I joined Scrivens and soon became a father, so I was driven to do the best I could and provide for my growing family. Fast forward a few years and my three children were still young when my late wife became ill and I needed flexible working to look after everyone. I have never forgotten the help I was given when I needed it most, which is why I have stayed loyal to the company for so long.”

Today, Luke has seven grandchildren and is still enjoying working with no immediate plans to retire.

Scrivens chairman, Nicholas Georgevic, said: “To reach 50 years’ service is an incredible milestone. All three are highly valued members of the Scrivens team and have contributed so much to our success. We wish Tad a happy retirement and look forward to benefitting from the continued wisdom and professionalism of Jeet and Luke.

“We have many other colleagues who have reached 25, 30 and 40 years with us and I am super proud that these people choose to work for us year after year.”
