A lifelong Hythe Scouting volunteer whose dedication has helped generations of young people has been recognised with a special community award.
Andy Warwick, Group Lead Volunteer at 3rd Dibden Purlieu Scout Group based near Hythe, is the latest recipient of Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care’s Community Hero Award for his inspirational leadership, compassion and commitment to supporting young people and families through Scouting. He was presented with the honour by the company’s Southampton Hythe High Street branch team, along with a gift and a £100 voucher, in celebration of his selfless efforts.
Andy has volunteered with the group for more than 13 years and his involvement in Scouting spans most of his life, having been a Beaver, Cub and Scout himself. Today, Scouting remains a family commitment, with his children in Cubs and Scouts and his wife, Jo, volunteering as a Squirrel Scout Leader.
He began as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader, progressed to Cub Scout Leader and, since the COVID-19 pandemic, has taken on the additional role of Group Lead Volunteer, giving many hours each week to plan inclusive activities that build confidence, teamwork, resilience and independence.
Andy is also a patient at Scrivens Southampton Hythe branch and, since receiving digital hearing aids, has gained greater confidence when communicating with parents and working alongside the Scout leadership team.

Andy said: “I have been in Scouting all my life, so it was a complete surprise when my wife, Jo, and the Scrivens Southampton Hythe branch team organised the award nomination and presentation. It’s a great honour to receive this award, but it is also recognition of the whole team who give up their free time to support our group and amazing young people. It is a privilege to help young people grow in confidence, enjoy new experiences and gain skills for life.”
