A Stapleford resident has been recognised for her daily acts of kindness with a special award.
Lynda Morton, 71, is the latest recipient of Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care’s Community Hero Award. She was presented with the honour by the company’s Stapleford branch team on Derby Road, along with a luxury afternoon tea hamper.
A loyal branch customer for more than 15 years, Lynda has become a much loved presence thanks to her warmth, kindness and genuine interest in others.
Lynda – who helps with tea and coffee at the Methodist Church at Stapleford Wives Club – remains a familiar sight in the town centre, often popping into the branch to ask after each member of the team and brighten their day with her positivity. Her caring nature extends beyond the branch, as she pays weekly visits to an elderly friend who needs a little extra support and a familiar friendly face, and has been nursing her husband, Derek, back to health after a recent stint in hospital.
Branch manager, Stephanie Isaacs, said: “Lynda is a beacon of light. Despite facing her own challenges recently – including a fall that left her with a big lump on her head and a black eye – she never stops looking after others. She always lifts our spirits when she visits, arriving with a smile and ready for a much welcomed chat. Lynda reminds us all that community spirit is built on small, meaningful acts. We are delighted that we could give her something back through our Community Hero initiative.”
Commenting on her Scrivens Community Hero Award, Lynda said: “Winning this award was such a wonderful surprise – it brought a tear to my eye. It’s been a tough time lately, so it’s such a lovely thing to happen and the Stapleford Scrivens team truly made me feel like a queen!”
