Community kindness initiative treats Bristol lunch club to a creative afternoon

Members of a local lunch club for the over-60s have enjoyed a creative craft session, thanks to a community initiative from Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care.

Launched this summer, Scrivens’ Branch Out with Kindness initiative invites community groups across England and Wales to share ideas for how a £100 gift could make a positive difference locally.

The Scrivens Clifton branch on Princess Victoria St selected Trinity Lunch Club, recognising the warmth and friendship the group offers to older people in Bristol.

Trinity Lunch Club invites over 60s to join for lunch, activities and entertainment in a friendly and comfortable environment, running every Thursday from 10am to 3pm, providing a valuable opportunity for social connection. The £100 gift enabled members to enjoy a craft session, making tote bags using natural materials, giving the group a creative way to spend their Thursday together.

Scrivens Clifton branch manager, Karin Ferrandi said: “When we launched Branch Out with Kindness, we wanted to celebrate the everyday acts of kindness happening in our community. We were delighted to support Trinity Lunch Club and recognise the wonderful environment they create for older people in Bristol. The team and I hope everyone enjoyed making their tote bags as a small thank you for all that the club brings to its members.”

Julia Senior-Smith, Trinity Lunch Club Co-ordinator, commented: “We are very fond of our Thursday sessions and are always looking for new ways to bring our members together. As a group, Trinity Lunch Club has made a real difference to those who attend, offering lunch, activities and entertainment in a friendly, comfortable setting. It’s lovely that Scrivens has thought of our members in this way – the craft session was a really nice treat for everyone involved.”
