A creative 11-year-old from Penistone is celebrating after winning a charity competition to design the front cover of an exciting adventure book, inspired by journeys, mysterious quests and amazing discoveries in real or magical worlds.
In the national competition organised by Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, Imogen Johnson won a £50 book voucher and a notebook with her design on the front.

Youngsters were invited to submit their designs with all entry proceeds from the £1 suggested donation going to Alzheimer’s Society.
Amy Roe, branch manager at Scrivens on Penistone High Street, said: “Alzheimer’s Society is our chosen charity and this activity has been a fantastic way to engage children while raising awareness of its vital work. This year’s competition invited youngsters to let their imaginations run wild by designing the front cover of an exciting adventure book. Imogen’s colourful ‘Mystery of the Missing Glasses’ entry really stood out and captured the fun and creativity of a brilliant escapade!”
Imogen’s mum, Louise, said: “Imogen loves to read and make up her own stories, so this competition really captured her imagination. She spotted it at the Penistone branch while we were waiting for her little sister to have her first eye test – the same branch where Imogen and her older sister had their first eye tests too. Imogen was absolutely delighted when she heard the news that she’d won! We couldn’t be prouder of her, and it’s been such a joy seeing her creativity celebrated in this way, especially for a competition that supports such a wonderful charity.”
Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society for an 11th successive year. A family-run business, it was established in 1938 and now has 166 high street stores across England and Wales and over 1,000 employees. For more information, visit www.scrivens.com.
