Celebrations Crown Jean’s 90th birthday

A great-grandmother who shares her 90th birthday with the Queen and once celebrated with her at Buckingham Palace received a surprise gift to mark the milestone.
Jean Barrett, who lives at Cherwood House Care Centre, Bicester, was presented with a £250 voucher and a bouquet of flowers from Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in Sheep Street where she is an optical and hearing customer.
Branch manager Colleen Townsend said: “We think it’s a fantastic achievement for the Queen to reach 90 and a great cause for celebration.
“When we realised Mrs Barrett was born on the same day as Her Majesty we wanted to recognise it and make her feel royally special.”
Ten years ago Jean was among a select number of people born on the same day as the Queen who were invited to lunch at Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s 80th birthday.
Her son Mike, who went with her, said: “We sat on the table next to the Queen and my mother loved that. We’re having a family get-together for my mother’s 90th. It is a special birthday and she appreciated the gesture from Scrivens which was a nice surprise.”
Mother of three Jean has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her sons Mike and Jan live nearby in Fringford while her son Peter lives in Lesotho in Southern Africa and he returned to join in the birthday celebrations.
