A Doncaster opticians is hosting a coffee and cake event with advice from a dementia support worker on Wednesday 17 May.

Sheena Carr of Alzheimer’s Society will be at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Printing Office Street between 2pm to 4pm as part of the branch’s support for Dementia Awareness Week (14-20 May).

Branch manager Leigh Ann Walton said: “It’s a cause we care about because dementia affects the lives of so many people in our community. Sheena will have information and advice for those who have concerns about how they can help family members.

“There is a real need for continued research and support. We are keen to do what we can for Alzheimer’s Society and donations made on the day will go to the charity.”

Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society as its chosen charity for the third successive year. It was chosen because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
