Love your hearing
Post on 11th February 2019
We’re issuing a Valentine’s Day plea to encourage people to have their hearing checked or risk losing out on the sounds they love.
A poll* we ran last year found our favourite top five sounds were waves crashing on rocks, a crackling fire, birds singing, rain hitting a window pane, and babies laughing.
Did you know one in six people have some degree of hearing loss but only around 40% of those who need hearing aids have them? We want people to show their hearing some love and have regular check-ups so they can truly appreciate the wonderful sounds around them.
With a range of private and free NHS hearing tests and digital hearing aids available on the high street, help is more accessible than ever. Hearing loss cannot be cured but it can be treated to improve the quality of life. Today’s hearing aids are small, discreet and effective and will make a big difference.
Hearing changes gradually over time and hearing loss can occur at any age but for the majority it occurs in adults over 50. More than 70 per cent of people over 70 suffer to some degree. An annual hearing health check is recommended for anyone over 50 to identify any changes and see what action is needed.
We provide a free NHS hearing service for people who are eligible and have been referred by their GP. It includes a comprehensive hearing assessment, fitting of digital hearing aids where required, ongoing aftercare support and a regular supply of batteries.
