A Colchester opticians chose a loyal customer of 18 years to officially launch its new branch.

Dawn Brightwell, a retired organiser for Age Concern, performed the honours at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Sir Isaacs Walk and was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a gift voucher as a thank you.

“It was a lovely surprise to be asked to do it. I have been a customer for all these years because I have always had good service. The staff are very helpful and friendly and there’s always a nice welcome,” said Mrs Brightwell, who was previously a home help organiser with social services, supporting the elderly and disabled at home.

Manager Kim Allen said: “Mrs Brightwell has entrusted her eye care to us for such a long time that we thought it fitting if she launched our new premises.”

The branch has moved to bigger premises from further along the road at Eld Lane. In addition to optical services it provides a full range of hearing care services, including free NHS hearing aids for the over 50s.

Opening offers, including a £10 eye test and up to 50% off frames will also celebrate the launch.
