Seeing the career opportunities after A-levels

Post on 25th August 2017

Images of excited or apprehensive students finding out their A-level results are a sight to behold.

These young people know it is a significant milestone and one that provides options for their future.

If going off to university does not appeal, there are other opportunities out there. The ‘earn as you learn’ route to a professional qualification and a rewarding career is one well recognised by Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care.

As a national retailer delivering services in local communities, it offers opportunities for young people to join training programmes to become, for example, dispensing opticians, contact lens opticians and hearing aid audiologists.

Applicants with the right skills, aptitude and commitment are sponsored on accredited courses to gain recognised professional qualifications while working in branches with supervision and support.

The recruits will usually work for six to 12 months in one of the company’s branches before embarking on their chosen career path.

To become a dispensing optician, giving advice on vision care and supplying glasses and contact lenses to suit customers’ needs, our trainees follow a three year distance learning course with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians leading to professional qualifying exams.

Once qualified, there is also the chance to further train as a contact lens optician.

As a leading provider of hearing care, Scrivens provides opportunities too for people to qualify as hearing aid audiologists. It supports them to gain a foundation degree in hearing aid audiology and a qualification recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council. Part-time distance learning combined with working in branch, is an attractive option for many and gives people a firm footing on the career ladder.

Regional manager Gareth Parry said: “We believe in developing the talents of young people to set them on a rewarding career path and deliver the high quality of optical and hearing care that is the hallmark of our business.”
