Surprise gift brings festive cheer to local pensioner

Christmas has come early for a Wolverhampton pensioner who was presented with a festive surprise as appreciation for her positive outlook on life.
Pat Smith, aged 79, who lives in Codsall, has spent her life caring for others. She has been a customer for 40 years at our Stafford Road, Oxley branch and we felt it was time to turn the tables and present her with a hamper full of festive goodies, for her dedication to the care of others.
Pat, whose husband Colin passed away last year after 58 years of marriage, had been a professional carer since she was 19 years old and then went on to be a carer for her husband throughout his illness. But despite her hardships, Pat always has a sunny disposition and is always thinking of others.
She said: “I am so touched and very surprised by this kind recognition. I don’t think I deserve it, but it has made my Christmas! I have trusted Scrivens with my eyesight and hearing care for around 40 years and the team at Oxley are like friends to me.”
Branch manager, Amanda Owen, presented Pat with her gift. She said: “It was part of our company’s festive campaign to celebrate customers who we felt deserved a treat. Pat has spent her life caring for others and latterly was a full-time carer for her late husband who was extremely poorly for a long time but she never complained and always has a smile on her face.
“Every time she comes in to see us for appointments, she is happy and always an absolute pleasure to have in the branch. She deserves any treats we can send her way.”
