A 101 year old local pensioner stepped into the spotlight when she was chosen to officially open a new look opticians in Westbourne.
Kathleen Hardy, who lives in Bournemouth, performed the honours at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Poole Road, which has enjoyed a make-over. The branch features two new optical and hearing screening rooms, bringing the total to three and boasts a larger selection of designer frames. Kathleen received flowers to mark the occasion and in recognition of her loyal custom.
Branch manager Linda Langton said: “We have invested in the store and wanted to mark its upgrade in style. Kathleen has entrusted her eye and hearing care to us for many, many years. At 101 years old she is an inspiration to all of us with her positive and fun attitude to life. She still lives independently and is always smiling when she visits the team.”
Kathleen worked in the war office and went on to marry professional footballer and Bournemouth player, Bob Hardy. They were together for over 40 years before he passed away in his 60s and together had a son, Andrew, who is now in his mid-70s. She puts her secret to long life down to a daily nightcap of whisky.
She said: “Being involved in the official reopening was a really special occasion, and I enjoyed every minute. It was the highlight of my week!”
“The store looks fantastic and I wish the team continued success. I’ve been going to Scrivens for more years than I can remember for both my eye and latterly my hearing care and always received excellent service.”
